Chocolate Chip Muffin is Fredrik Lyhagen and Johan Windahl. Our first EP, “Five colours of melancholy” was recorded in February 1998 at Mega Musik in Helsingborg, Sweden. Since then we’ve been working on the follow-up and expect to enter the studio again any decade.
Young, innocent and melancholic.
“Five Colours of Melancholy” was a great success. Fredrik’s grand mother bought 5 copies, Johan’s sister 7 copies and all of our friends bought somewhere between 1 and 10 each.
The critics praised the debut as well. Many of Fredrik’s and Johan’s friend were very surprised about the pubertal angst and somewhat depressive lyrics. However, after we had convinced them that we would be ok without the shrink they had called on our behalf they did say that the songs had nice melodic hooks and some catchy passages.
Not to lessen the euphoria of the number of EPs sold and the kind words of our friends, but our greatest claim to fame is a refusal letter from Jimmy Fun Music (under the wings of Per Gessle) signed by one of the greatest Swedish popstars, producers and fashionistas ever – Ben Marlene.
The below songs are all produced by “Einar” with eager help from Fredrik and Johan. Fredrik and Johan play all guitars and some bass guitar. “Einar” is playing drums, some bass and has programmed strings, piano and the rest.
Johan helped Fredrik twisting, tweaking, adding and substracting to improve his songs and vice versa.
